GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Leaders with Dance Alive National Ballet are asking for community support after Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed a $1.7 million state allocation intended to fund construction of a new studio.

Construction on the new space is underway. Leaders with the organization expect it to be complete next summer.

A representative at the watch party spoke to the role of the arts in the community.

“Without the arts there’s something missing inside. You can’t express yourself. And I can tell you you’re not gonna find a lot of dancers that are criminals. It really reaches the better part of you,” the speaker said.
