Gainesville advocacy groups host city and county commission candidate forum
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -Two advocacy organizations called ‘Gainesville is for People’ and ‘Gainesville Citizens for Active Transportation’ are co-hosting a public forum Monday featuring city and county commission candidates.
The two key topics will be housing and transportation.
First, city commission candidates will take the stage, answering both advocacy groups on a series of questions, then county commission candidates will do the same. Mayoral candidates will also be in attendance.
Jason Sanchez, the Co- founder of Gainesville is For People, says that the event is meant to focus on local issues that impact day-to-day life, growth in the region, and to highlight where candidates stand on those topics.
“When you’re in a local community…really like any mid-sized city, small and mid-sized city like our city here, and our county here, you tend to get people that are really just focused on how do I make this place a better place to live.”
The forum will take place at the LifeSouth Community Blood Center on 1221 NW 13th Street from 6 to 8.
Each organization plans to decide its endorsements separately for the city and county commission races, based on candidates’ forum answers, written questionnaire responses, and platforms.
