North Central Florida law enforcement reminding drivers of Operation Southern Slowdown

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A multi-state crackdown on speeders is more than halfway over.

Law enforcement agencies throughout North Central Florida are participating in Operation Southern Slowdown.

Bradford County Sheriff’s officials posted a photo on social media showing one of the deputies who has been monitoring traffic.

Several other agencies including the Alachua Police Department have been putting out reminders to drivers about the increased law enforcement presence.

The operation lasts through Saturday. Last year the operation resulted in nearly 53,000 citations or warnings.
