GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Unemployment rates climbed from May to June in nearly every county across North Central Florida, while the statewide rate fell slightly for the first time since the end of 2024.

Every county in the region saw an increase in workers filing for jobless benefits except Gilchrist County, where the rate held at 5% — the lowest in the area.

Statewide numbers declined modestly last month, marking the first drop since late 2024.
