NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) – A teen has died after being hit by a falling tree at a Nashville summer camp.

The teen was identified as 15-year-old Camden Robert Callihan.

Officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department said they were called out to YMCA Camp Widjiwagan on Monday morning for reports of a camper injured by a falling tree.

MNPD said that two counselors were leading campers on a trail when they came across a tree that had fallen and was leaning against another tree.

Camp staff said the camper was injured during a group hike in the woods.

The counselors reportedly warned campers to not touch the unstable tree. Investigators say a 14-year-old camper and friend of the victim was walking beside Callihan when the other teen touched the tree, causing it to fall and strike Callihan.

Counselors worked together to lift the tree off of him. Callihan was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 11 a.m.

This is a developing story.
