Lubee Conservancy is raffling off a custom-built bat house
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Lubee Conservancy is holding a raffle for a custom-built bat house, with entries open now through Aug. 28.
The nonprofit is calling it its 200th Bat House Drawing. The winner receives the conservancy’s 200th custom-built bat house. The remaining 199 houses are designated to provide habitat for bats displaced from their natural environments.
Brian Pope, Director of the Lubee Bat Conservancy, said the animals serve a practical purpose for agricultural operations.
“These guys are basically going to eat anything that flies around at night, including mosquitos, agricultural pests, beetles,” Pope said. “So we put up a lot of bat houses on farms and ranches, around cattle and horses, because bats are gonna take care of really anything that flies at night.”
A raffle ticket requires a $100 donation to the conservancy. Entries close Aug. 28.
