GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - City officials have rescinded a reportedly transgender-inclusive Gainesville Police Department detainee search policy after Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier threatened legal action last month.

On Thursday, Uthmeier posted a letter from the city confirming the policy was rescinded.

The attorney general’s initial demand letter takes issue with the policy that he claims “prioritizes gender ideology.”

Uthmeier asserts the police department’s policy on detainee searches states that officers with the same gender expression or identity should search detainees. He claims the police violated the Florida Law and the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
