COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) - County animal services in Tennessee says a dog recently needed emergency care after it was reportedly dragged behind a vehicle.

According to Maury County Animal Services, it received a tip earlier this week about the injured animal.

The animal care team said the dog had been tied to a bumper and dragged behind a truck after its leash broke when the pup could not keep up.

An officer reported finding the injured dog and picked her up as an after-hours emergency.

Animal services said its director and veterinarian provided emergency care and pain management for the dog.

The agency initially asked the public to help identify the gray truck and its owner before updating its investigation and saying the animal’s owner has since been identified.

The agency did not immediately announce any charges in the case. Officials previously said they would pursue charges if possible.
