GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Summertime heat and showers are still in the forecast, but we’re a month away from the Autumn Equinox, September 22, 2026!

  • Tonight: Atmospheric conditions allowed for less rain today and upper 80s temps today for some spots, Gainesville’s high was 87°. Many areas saw lots of clouds without rain today, while some saw a storm like in Columbia County and Suwannee County. SW winds continue to be calm overnight, with low temps around 73°.
  • Monday: The start of the week will have that blend of sun, low to mid 90s heat, and a chance of some isolated rainstorms. SW winds will be 5-15 MPH with nighttime temps in the 70s.
  • Extended: Storm chances are higher for our northern counties like Suwannee, Columbia, Union and Bradford on Monday and Tuesday due to closer proximity to a stalling front over the SE U.S.

Let’s have a great last week of August!

Tropical Update: There’s a tropical disturbance in the Atlantic near Africa that currently has a moderate 50% chance of development in the next week as it moves west in our direction.
