GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Three Heisman Trophy-winning Florida Gator quarterbacks Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel, and Tim Tebow, are teaming up this weekend to support children transitioning to foster care for the Florida Legends Experience.

The Isaiah 117 House was founded by Ronda Paulson to support foster children awaiting placement. They currently have 66 homes across the southeast and have a facility in Baker County which serves children from North Central Florida.

“We are honored that they would spend their time and talents to help us create awareness, and not just awareness for Isaiah 117 House, awareness for the struggles of children entering foster care,” said Paulson.

She says the transition into foster is one of the most difficult and confusing things a child can face, and says living in an Isaiah 117 House can create better outcomes for the kids.

“I believe with all my heart, some of the most vulnerable population that we have right now is children entering the foster care system,” said Paulson. “And so the fact that these Gator greats would take their time and their influence and their giftings to bring awareness to the needs of foster children in the state of Florida, to bring awareness to the need of foster parents, it’s more than just bringing awareness to Isaiah 117 House.”

Danny Wuerffel is looking forward to throwing touchdown passes to fans and raising money for children.

“Children are very vulnerable in these foster situations, and for Isaiah 117 to really come alongside them and create safety and comfort and spaces is really a powerful thing,” Wuerffel said. “So clearly, me, coach and Tim were all moved by this. There’s some different people that support them that had this idea of sort of leveraging our notoriety as Gator greats towards this foundation. So we’re excited about it and looking forward to meeting everybody on Sunday.”

The Head Football Coach, Steve Spurrier, said he and the others will sign autographs, and he’ll do some hand off’s too.

“We’re involved signing autographs, taking pictures. I think throwing them a pass if anybody wants to catch one or something like that,” said Spurrier." But yeah, we had talked about this when I first came back ten years ago... “They got together and put this event together. So we’re really looking forward to it.”

The Florida Legends Experience starts at 9:30 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center in Celebration Pointe.

There will be a VIP photo Op from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Visors Rooftop at Spurrier’s Gridiron Grille with the Florida Legends Gala starting right after and running until 8:30.
