GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A Gainesville congregation opened the doors of its new sanctuary for the first time this weekend, marking a milestone years in the making.

Zion Lutheran Church spent years planning and fundraising for the new worship space. Church leaders said the new sanctuary represents a fresh start and a place to build outreach to the community.

The grand opening included lawn games and food vendors for the community.

“This is a community-wide celebration. We open our doors not just for worship but especially for 0-5 programming through the Smart Start at Zion programs, music and movement. We just started a Sprouts program for the community as well, so looking forward to keep inviting more and more people on to this campus as well.”

The open house ran until 1 p.m. A formal dedication service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
