Gainesville man arrested after throwing trash can lid at woman

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Gainesville police say they arrested Chadrick Smith Jr, 28, of Gainesville, Saturday afternoon after he threw a metal trash can lid at a 65-year-old woman at 700 SE 3rd Street.

According to the report, Smith was trying to sleep on a bench and the victim says she got up to use the bathroom.

Smith then angrily approached the victim and a witness and threw the trash can lid at her, hitting her in the left shoulder.

The victim told police she does not know Smith.

The witness confirmed the incident.

Smith told police he was trying to sleep and became upset with the victim and witness because they were making noise, admitting to throwing the trash can lid.

He was charged with aggravated battery of a person 65 years or older.
