Woman dies in crash near Gainesville Work Camp, deputies say
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies say a Gainesville woman is dead after she crashed into a tree in Gainesville Sunday morning.
Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies say they responded to the scene outside of the Gainesville Work Camp at the 400 block of Northeast 55th Boulevard along with the Florida Highway Patrol and Alachua County Fire Rescue.
FHP says the woman, 61, was turning right into the Gainesville Work Camp when the driver of a truck driving behind her swerved right onto the shoulder to avoid her car and hit her.
The woman’s car slid across the road into the opposite shoulder and hit a tree.
She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The road near the crash was closed in both directions.
