For Elgin Rucker, sports has been a focal point in his life for a very long time.
The atmosphere, the excitement, and his passion for the world of sports, has led him to pursue a career as sport's next great Anchor of his time. Now, his dream is finally starting to take shape, and Elgin is more than excited to begin his journey as TV20's Weekend Sports Anchor!
Elgin was born and raised in Orlando, FL. He is also a recent graduate of the University of Florida, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications-News. While earning his degree, his time was also spent as a multimedia reporter for WUFT Radio and WUFT-TV. He would also perform sports commentary for ESPN Radio in Gainesville. He stuck around the city after graduation, immediately interning with the sports department here at TV20, while also working as an Associate Producer. Elgin continued to pursue his goal with great dilligence, and in due time, the opportunity was extended to be brought on as an Anchor.
Elgin is also a willing contributor to the Gainesville community. He is a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., an international organization of brotherhood, that has uplifted and supported local communities across the globe for over 100 years. As the President of the University of Florida's Omicron Zeta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, his goal was to use that platform as a conduit of influence. He strived to give back to the Gainesville community, and the community of students at the University of Florida, that had given so much to him. Now, Elgin views being able to impact this community with the increased level of influence that TV20 offers, as an amazing opportunity. He also spends his spare time volunteering at his local Boys & Girls Club of Alachua County, where he previously worked as a Program Coordinator while in school.
You can catch Elgin live every Saturday and Sunday for the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. sportscast, covering local, Gator, and national sporting events and news!
