LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) -- Florida Gateway College and its president are schooling state lawmakers on the need for a new STEM building on campus.

School President Lawrence Barrett told a House Subcommittee on Tuesday that the old facility was built in the 1960's, is no longer up to code, and does not meet Florida standards for teaching STEM courses.

Barrett is asking for a public education capital outlay of $9,000,000 for the new building and an unspecified amount to reach STEM standards.
