11th Annual Souper Fun Sunday at Saint Francis Catholic Academy
Saint Francis Catholic academy held its 11th annual Souper Fun Sunday.
it was a special day for Amy Whitaker who is celebrating her 2nd year as co-chair of the event.
She’s amazed by the turnout and support.
“We’re very excited about the turnout already. we’ve got three restaurants that are in their 12th or 11th year at the event, so we really appreciate them. it’s just a great fun event,” said Co-chair of Souper Fun Sunday.
The school has parent volunteers organizing the event and
alongside co-chair Katherine west, Amy worked her way up to the position.
“Katherine and I decided that we will do this together. I kind of started as a freshman parent, just doing one part of the event and kind of learned some of the couple areas and they asked me to be co-chair and I’m not very good at saying no,” said Whitaker.
Parents weren’t the only volunteers. Students helped by setting up garbage cans around the gym and assisted seniors by bringing them soup.
“Students are our greatest ambassadors for our school so they have come in and they are helping too. this could not be done without our parent and student volunteers; it just can’t or our soup vendors. so they are here to help in every capacity,” said Whitaker
More than 30 Gainesville restaurants and caterers came out to this event to share their soups to those who want a little taste.
The event is usually held on a specific day for any soup lover.
“It’s always held on the bye week of the championship and the super bowl so typically its a bit colder so but it’s pretty easy to transport and who doesn’t like soup,” said Whitaker.
