An Orlando area businessman has donated $12 million to help the University of Florida and UF Health to launch a new brain tumor research initiative.

The contribution from hotel owner Harris Rosen and the Harris Rosen Foundation will go towards immunotherapy research and car.

The donation is part of an overall $100 million fundraising commitment by the university to support the ReMission Alliance Against Brain Tumors.

The donation is personal for Rosen, whose son was treated at UF Health but died in November after a fight with brain cancer.

A suite within the McKnight Brain Institute will be named in honor of Rosen’s son.
