HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. (WCJB)- The Gilchrist Sheriff's Office says that an 18-year-old man appears to have drowned in the Santa Fe River near Ginnie Springs on Saturday, September 7, 2019.

In a Facebook post on the GCSO's official page, they say that just before 1:00 pm on Saturday, they received a call about a possible drowning at the springs. When they arrived, they found a witness that told them that Jonathan Diaz Acosta had disappeared under the water in the Santa Fe River before bystanders could get to him for help.

Acosta's body was later found by a dive team assisting the GCSO.

Witnesses say he was having trouble swimming before he went under the water and that the apparent drowning appeared accidental.

Acosta's exact cause of death will be determined by an autopsy and the investigation will remain pending until then.
