The state's highest court may decide a dispute between Sheriff Sadie Darnell and Alachua County.

The county filed a notice with the court over the sheriff moving money within her budget without consulting the county.

The lawsuit was first filed in 2017 after Darnell spent around $500,000 - initially budgeted for new vehicles - on pay raises.

In September, the 1st District Court of Appeals sided with the sheriff. Now it may be up to the supreme court to decide.
