ASO: Lake Butler man broke into Gainesville church

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) — A Lake Butler man was arrested Sunday morning after deputies said he broke into a church.

According to the arrest report, Alachua County Sheriff Deputies said they found Timothy James Crawford, 32, getting on his knees and praying when they found him inside the Country Crossroads Baptist Church.

Crawford told deputies he walked to the church from Lake Butler overnight.

Deputies said he broke several windows around the church and destroyed church property searching for anything valuable.

They also found a knife and screwdriver that was used to pry open doors in the church.

Crawford was charged with burglary, possessing burglary tools and damaging church property. He was booked at the Alachua County Jail with bond set at $70,000.
