The Florida Sheriff's Association announced its dispatcher of the year and the winner is a dispatcher working at the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.

Jefferson Andress has been a dispatcher for 11 years. The show 'Rescue 911' starring William Shatner and having close friends working in law enforcement inspired him to be a dispatcher.

He said being a dispatcher is a great way to serve the public.

“I’m very humbled that I was nominated to begin with and also very grateful to the Florida Sheriff’s Association for recognizing dispatchers year in and year out," Andress said. "It’s a testament that we’re getting some recognition.”

ASO said Andress is the first person in Alachua County to win the award.

"The one thing I would say to dispatchers across the country is that we're all doing an immensely tough job for little to know recognition," Andress said. "It's awesome that we're finally getting some."

In 2016, Andress was named the National Smart911 Telecommunicator of the year.
