ASO: man hits deputy’s car while trying to escape

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — A Gainesville man was arrested Tuesday after deputies said he hit a deputy’s car while trying to escape.

According to the arrest report, when deputies responded to a domestic battery call they found Jamie Dykes, 40, in a car attempting to leave. The deputy positioned his car to block Dykes from leaving and ordered him get out of his car.

Ignoring the orders, Dykes accelerated toward the deputy’s car, hitting the driver’s side front panel and forcing the deputy to run inside his car to avoid getting hit.

When another deputy arrived, Dykes was ordered again to exit the car to which he complied. During a search, deputies found a small bag of marijuana inside Dykes’ car.

Dykes was charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, fleeing from law enforcement, battery and marijuana possession. He was booked at the Alachua County Jail with bond set at $55,000.
