ALACHUA CO., Fla. (WCJB) - Alachua County Animal Services remains under quarantine after six dogs were put down after contracting the canine distemper virus this week.

Animal services is not taking owner surrenders so they can limit the spread of the virus, as all incoming dogs must be housed separately from those that have been quarantined.

They're working with the UF College of Veterinary Medicine throughout the process.

The Alachua County Humane Society is taking in new dogs while animal services is unable to do so.
