Alachua County Commissioner Lee Pinkoson retiring

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) -- A longtime county commissioner is making his farewells.

Lee Pinkoson was first elected to the Alachua County Commission in 2002, but chose not to run for re-election earlier this year.

His final County Commission meeting was yesterday.

At the end of a public hearing, Gainesville City Commissioner David Arreola stepped up to say thank you for his service and that "(he) should look back with pride."

Pinkoson recently retired from running an optician practice.

There will be a fundraising retirement party in his honor on November 8th at the Warehouse Restaurant & Lounge in Gainesville.

Proceeds will benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness as well as the Southwest Advocacy Group.
