Alachua County Commissioners vote on gun ordinance

It is going to take longer to buy a gun in Alachua County. Monday afternoon, County Commissioners voted 4-1 to extend the wait period to buy a firearm from three to five days. Commissioner Lee Pinkoson voted "no."

The ordinance also requires a background check on all gun sales, even unlicensed ones, effectively closing the so-called "gun show loophole."

The proposal would exempt current certified law enforcement officers. The ordinance will take effect after it is filed with the state.
