Alachua County Fire Rescue to give away smoke detectors and how to install them

North Central Florida firefighters are making sure everyone has a smoke detector.

Alachua County Fire Rescue is hosting a presentation to teach people about smoke alarms and provide them to anyone who needs one.

The" presentation will be held at the Red Cross headquarters

on Northwest 6th Street in Gainesville starting at 9 a.m. Monday morning followed by an on-site home visit and smoke detector installation demonstrations.

Anyone who needs a smoke detector can stop by any Alachua County fire station. Once a request has been made, a representative will set an appointment to install the detectors within a week. Requests can also be made by emailing
