The Alachua County Sheriff's Office has new bulletproof vests for their K-9's thanks to an anonymous donor.

The vests are designed for the K-9's to wear at all times throughout their entire shift.

Deputies say this new addition will help keep the K-9s safe.

"They really are part of your family, they're your partner, they have certain tasks that they're trained to perform but all in all they're part of the family, they're part of the sheriff's office. They go to work just like you and I do,” Sergeant Michael Hurlocker with the K-9 unit said.

With the funds from the anonymous donation, the Sheriff's Office was able to buy a dozen vests that cost around $1,200 each
