GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -- Right now the sheriff's office is hoping to hire multiple telecommunicators, and anyone hired gets a 5-thousand dollar hiring bonus.

Alachua county sheriffs opened their doors to the public for a one-of-a-kind open house, hoping to fill an opening for telecommunicators.

Applicants must be 19-years-old and have a high school diploma or GED. However, previous experience is not required, and everyone hired will be trained before they pick up their first 911 call.

The open house started at 10 am and drew in more than 60 people by noon.

If you missed today's open house but are interested in the job, you can still apply online.
