ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) -- The Alachua County sheriff's office could get an airboat to enforce Alachua County's airboat noise ordinance.

On Tuesday, county commissioners voted on a proposal that includes hiring an additional rural services deputy, for a total of three, who would enforce county ordinances on lakes and wetlands where other boats can't reach.

They also directed staff to determine if code enforcement officers can issue citations as well.

Commissioners directed staff to investigate the cost of the boat and deputy.
