ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. The Children's Trust of Alachua County ballot proposal has passed, and Alachua County is now accepting applications from people interested in serving on the board.
The Children's Trust will tax residents for preventive, developmental, and treatment services for children.
The board will be comprised of 10 members. Five of them will be appointed by the Governor's office from a list of names submitted by county commissioners.
The five other seats will be filled by the superintendent of schools, a school board member, a county commission representative, a juvenile judge, and the Department of Children and Families District representative.
“We’re very excited about the voters having to approved it because we look forward to really enhancing services and assistance to our youth,” Alachua County Community Support Services Department Director Claudia Tuck said.
She hopes to have a broad range of individuals.
“There's a variety of areas that we hope to receive applications from,” Tuck said. “It will be up to our board of county commissioners to narrow the selection to submit to the governor but the main thing is to be representative of our population.”
Applicants must have been a resident in Alachua County for at least 24 months and have a background in childcare services.
November 20, 2018, is the deadline to submit the applications.
