Alachua County is one of five counties selected to bring scientists into each of their schools' classrooms.

The "Scientist in Every Florida School" program is run by the Thompson Earth Systems Institute at the University of Florida.

The program aims to connect students at every K-12 school in a selected county with science experts through class lectures, field trips, and teacher development.

It was one of 8 programs selected in 2019 for the University of Florida's $17,000,000 "moonshot" initiative.

Other counties selected by the program include Escambia, Lee, Palm Beach, and Seminole counties.
