The graduate rate for Alachua County Public Schools has increased, according to the Florida Department of Education.

The district's overall four year graduation rate for 2017, was almost 83 percent. In 2016, the rate was about 78 percent.

The increased rate also puts the district above the statewide graduation rate of 82 percent. The graduation rate for African American students in Alachua County, also rose to 68 percent.

The district's highest graduation rate came from Newberry High School at 97 percent. Hawthorne High School, which must earn a C grade for this school year to remain open, saw an increase to 74%.

One of the criteria in determining high school's grades is the graduation rate. The rate reported by the state also includes students attending charter schools.
