GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -

The Humane Society of North Central Florida is on standby to help animals impacted in the Bahamas by Hurricane Dorian.

In partnership with several other animal welfare groups in Florida, the Humane Society will wait until the Bahamian authorities let them know what is needed.

In order to make room for lost, abandoned, or injured pets rescued in the Bahamas, they need to make space at the Humane Society in Gainesville.

You are asked to please consider adopting a dog, cat, puppy, or kitten currently at their shelter on Northwest 6th Street in Gainesville.

Due to the situation, the Humane Society is waiving all adoption fees until Sunday, September 8th.

The facility is open for adoptions Thursday through Sunday from 12:00pm to 6:00pm.
