Archer Rd. blocked Sunday by crash that sent one to hospital

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -- 4:00 P.M. UPDATE: Florida Highway Patrol confirmed the driver was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital and remains in the Intensive Care Unit. The condition of the driver still is not known.

All westbound lanes of Archer Rd. were blocked Sunday after a vehicle crash sent one person to the hospital with injuries.

The first call came in around 11:05 a.m., with one vehicle reported as having slammed into a concrete power pole just past Tower Rd. near the CVS Pharmacy.

The vehicle appeared to be a gold or silver sedan. Pictures from a TV20 reporter on scene show the front of the car demolished, with the doors missing and airbags deployed.

One person, presumed to be the driver, was taken to the hospital with injuries, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers are still on scene investigating, and the driver's condition is unknown at this time.

According to ASO, the driver was taken by ambulance after deputies busted the car's window to extract the person.
