Bill limiting local governments' plastic straw bans heads to Governor's office

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- If Gainesville city leaders were to try and expand their plastic bag ban to plastic straws they could be restricted, thanks to a bill now headed to Governor Ron DeSantis' office.

The bill requires a study to be done on straw bans that are already in place throughout the state. It also requires local governments to address the collection and processing of recyclables that were contaminated with non- recyclables.

If the governor signs it into law, it would be in place for five years.
