Blood Donation Competition Between The Florida Gators and The Kentucky Wildcats

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - LifeSouth Blood is hosting its 10th annual Gators vs. Cats Blood Donation competition. This SEC matchup between The University of Florida and The University of Kentucky is part of the annual "What Colors Do You Bleed?" competition.

Last year, the Kentucky Wildcats pulled out the victory over the Florida Gators. The competition begins on January 20th and runs through the 24th.

LifeSouth is in full-blown "Emergency Need" for blood. Laura Bialeck is the North Florida Community Development Coordinator for LifeSouth. She said this means the organization has less than a two-day supply of blood to give to local hospitals. Bialeck, said these types of events teach people about the need for blood. She said, in the United States somebody needs blood every two to three seconds.

If you are interested in donating to the emergency supply or participating in the Gators Vs. Cats competition you can donate at either LifeSouth donor centers in Gainesville and at all on-campus blood drives.

If you donate during the competition you will receive a limited shirt for your donation.

In order to donate, you must be at least 17-year-old or 16-year-old with a parent's permission, weigh at least 110 pounds and have a photo ID.
