County deputies have reported a main water break in Hampton.

The sheriff's office has issued a precautionary boil water notice for those who use the city's water system. They advise residents to boil water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes. Otherwise, residents should use an alternative source of water until further notice.

This boil notice will remain in effect until officials finish tests showing whether the water is safe to drink.
