North Central Florida man behind bars after he killed his grandfather

BRANFORD, Fla. (WCJB) -- (UPDATE 02/24/2020)

A North Central Florida man is behind bars in North Carolina after he confessed to killing his grandfather.

Suwannee County Sheriff's deputies say they found the body of Wayne Manuel, 77, at Curley's Trailer Park in Branford last week.

At the time, Sheriff Sam St. John told TV20 News the death appeared to be from natural causes and no foul play was suspected.

Now, investigators say the victim's grandson, Scottie Manuel, 33, was responsible for his death.

A North Central Florida man is behind bars after being accused of killing his grandfather.

Suwannee County Sheriff's deputies say they found the body of 77-year-old Wayne Manuel at Curley's Trailer Park in Branford last week.

Investigators say the victim's grandson, 33-year-old Scottie Manuel, is responsible for his death.

According to authorities Manuel used a gun and threw it into the Suwannee River.

A dive team was deployed but was unable to locate the weapon.

With the help of multiple agencies, Suwannee County investigators traveled to North Carolina to arrest him.

Manuel is currently being held in a detention center in North Carolina.
