City officials say special needs housing is critically needed in Gainesville. But after Thursday night's event, they're one step closer to making more units for those with special needs available.

The Gainesville Housing Development and Management Corporation held a casino night at the Warehouse Restaurant in downtown Gainesville. All of the money raised went to the development of new special needs housing.

There is currently a waitlist for over 1600 families with special needs that are in need of affordable housing.
