Columbia County deputies tour local church to prep for active shooter situations

LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) --

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office visited a local church to learn the layout in case of an emergency.

Deputies toured Park View Baptist Church in Lake City Monday morning. They've done similar training exercises at other churches in the area.

Law enforcement officers have access to blueprint layouts of schools but not of churches, so the drill lets them be better prepared if there is an emergency.

The sheriff's office says that shootings like the one in a Texas church in December prove there is no room to take security for granted.
