Commissioners vote to ban plastic bags in Alachua County

Alachua County is now part of a growing movement across the country trying to regulate single-use plastics. Alachua County commissioners have voted to incorporate a plastic bag and styrofoam ban, similar to the ban in Gainesville.

The ordinance will only apply to unincorporated areas of the county and will go into effect on January 1st. Until then, Alachua County will work on raising awareness about the ordinance.

A county spokesperson tells TV20 they plan to work with with the city of Gainesville on future events.
