Community members, family and friends attend vigil for Nunez family
John Steinbeck wrote, "It's so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone."
As friends and family circled around photos of two young elementary school girls, they lit candles to remember three lights that went out too soon.
Community members, students and school staff joined the family in honoring Nevaeh, Katalaya and their grandfather Emilio Nunez.
They were hit and killed by an impaired driver last week. Several who attended the vigil knew the girls well.
Micah Romano, a family friend, shared fond memories of the girls.
"Energetic, happy, so much fun, always had a hug, always – No one should ever have to go through this ever," Romano said.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday. After the service, the funeral procession will pass by Belleview-Santos Elementary School where a display will be set up in their honor.
