GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB)-- Dozens of people turned out Saturday morning to pick up trash along the sides of the roads in the Greater Duval Community in Gainesville’s east side.

The movement comes one week after 31-year-old Montez Davis was shot and killed outside the 8th Avenue Food Store.

James Eugene Boykins was later arrested in connection with the homicide.

Organizers with the event told TV20 the goal of the clean-up is to promote safety in the community through activism.

Keeping Alachua County Beautiful is still looking for volunteers for another upcoming clean-up project on March 30th. Interested residents can sign up at http://www.kacb.org/
