NCFL (WCJB) - According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Uniform Crime Report, crime fell in North Central Florida in 2018 with the exception of Alachua County.

The report shows that crime in Alachua County surged nearly 8% with increases in every major crime category.

One crime that had a widespread increase was in motor vehicle theft. Nearly 8% more cars were stolen across the region than in 2017.

Gilchrist County did not formally report its numbers in 2017, which may have skewed the overall rate increase.
