OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) -- Marion County biologists captured a bear showing signs of dangerous behavior in the Juniper Prairie Wilderness area in Ocala and later had it killed.
TV 20 previously reported heightened bear activity at Juniper Prairie Wilderness camp prohibiting overnight camping. Biologists from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission have been working with the U.S. Forest Service to respond to reports of a bear entering tents.
The U.S. Forest Service closed the wilderness area, and FWC set up an empty tent and trap. The same bear came to the tent twice and showed no hesitation when entering.
Biologists determined this bear posed a threat to human safety and it was humanely killed.
