Deputy accused of choking girlfriend sentenced to probation

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB)-- The former Alachua County Sheriff's Deputy accused of choking his girlfriend has been sentenced.

29-year-old Joseph Sperring of Gainesville got one-year probation after pleading no contest to a domestic battery charge. Sperring also was fined, can't have contact with the victim, and must complete a batterers intervention program.

Sperring was also arrested in 2017 for aggravated assault and battery on a former girlfriend, and in 2016 for a DUI. Both cases were dropped.
