Detectives investigate possible serial attacker in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) -- Gainesville police department detectives are investigating two separate attacks on women that happened this week.

In the first attack, a woman near Southwest 35th Place was attacked and pulled into a wooded area by a man Monday night.

The victim was able to fight off her attacker and get help.

Then on Wednesday morning, another woman was attacked while walking on a trail in Alfred Ring Park.

That woman was sexually assaulted.
And based off of similar descriptions, the city could have a serial attacker.

"I was definitely freaked out," said Nearby Resident Lokela Blanc. "My roommate had texted me later in the night and she thought that she had heard someone screaming for help."

"Within the last week, we've had two attacks on women," said Gainesville Police Department Spokesperson Jorge Campos. "One in the southwest part of town and one in the northwest part of town."

"Please stay safe, everyone, walk with a buddy; if you don't have a buddy if you're walking home late at night call somebody and make sure they are on the phone with you until you get in your house safe," Blanc said. "Girls, keep your keys between your fingers like this, that is usually how I walk home."

"It worries us when any of these types of incidences occur whether it is one person doing it or multiple people doing it, the fact that it even occurred is concerning," Campos said. So, it is our responsibility to try and find out who may be doing that and bring them to justice and out the measures in place to make sure it never happens again."

In both cases, the suspect was a white man wearing dark clothes with a black cloth around his face.

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact Detective Warren Brown at 352-393-7658.
