UPDATE: Body of diver trapped in Manatee Springs State Park recovered
UPDATE (11/25/19, 11:00 p.m.):
Deputies with the Levy County Sheriff's Office say the body of a diver that was trapped in Manatee Springs State Park has been recovered.
They say 28-year-old Zhou Min of China was diving with her husband and friends in the main outflow area when she was trapped.
Manatee Springs officials say two attempts to remove her Sunday failed because of increased outflow from recent rains.
Monday afternoon, the International Underwater Cave Rescue Recovery Team based in Lake City recovered Min's body.
Min was a certified diver who came to the United States specifically to dive sites like Manatee Springs.
Lt. Scott Tummond, with the Levy County Sheriff's Office, tells us that they first got the call about the diver on Sunday, November 24, at 5:00 pm.
She was diving with three other people at the park before deputies received the call.
Dive teams have been working since to recover the body of the diver.
“This is just a horrific accident hampered by the excessive water flow coming through an aquifer system right now. A very experienced diver that found herself in a very, very bad situation and unfortunately it cost her life," Lt. Tummond said.
