PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. (WCJB) – A two-year-old girl and her family are recovering in the hospital after their car was hit by a drunk driver in Putnam County
Wayne Morris, 35, of East Palatka and a passenger were heading north on U.S. Highway 17 Saturday evening, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
Robert Ellis, 46, Laura Austin-Ellis, 45, and their daughter were south on the same road at the time when Morris hit their car head-on, the FHP report said. Morris had left the roadway, overcorrected and crossed the median.
All three members of the Ellis family were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, the report said. Morris's passenger suffered minor injuries while morris had none.
Morris was charged with careless driving, DUI, property damage due to a DUI and serious bodily injury. He is being held in the Putnam County jail on a $9,500 bond.
