E-cig court decision in Alachua County upheld in appellate court

A precedent-setting court decision over defective e-cigarettes in Alachua County has been upheld on appeal.

Three judges from the Florida First District Court of Appeal found that an Alachua County Jury had properly ruled in favor of resident J-Michael Hoce, who lost four teeth when his e-cigarette blew up.

They awarded Hoce more than $2,000,000.

Ebay seller "RL Sales" appealed, saying Hoce's methamphetamine use had weakened his teeth.

The appellate court ruled that was not relevant to the jury's findings.
